We want this site to be usable by everyone, and we would rather tell you what is not finished than claim it is.
The standard we work to
WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is the level UK public sector bodies are held to, and it is a sensible bar for anyone.
What is in place
- Colour contrast is checked automatically on every build. Every text and background pairing in the design system is verified against the AA threshold before the code can ship. It is a build failure, not a review comment.
- Keyboard operable throughout. Every link, button and menu can be reached and used without a mouse, and the focus indicator is always visible — never removed for aesthetic reasons.
- A skip link to jump straight past the navigation.
- Reduced motion is honoured. If your system asks for reduced motion, animations are switched off rather than merely shortened. No content is ever hidden behind an animation, so the page is complete whether it animates or not.
- Semantic structure. Real headings in order, real lists, real landmarks, so a screen reader can navigate the page rather than read it top to bottom.
- Text resizes. The type scale is fluid and the layout reflows to 400% zoom without horizontal scrolling.
- Both light and dark themes are contrast-checked to the same standard.
What we know is not done yet
Being specific about this is the point of the page.
- No independent audit has been carried out. Our checks are automated and our own. Automated testing catches perhaps a third of real accessibility problems.
- We have not yet tested with real screen-reader users. We have tested with screen readers; that is not the same thing.
- The blog and product pages are new and have had less scrutiny than the core navigation.
- Some product screenshots are still missing alternative text, because the images themselves are not final.
If something does not work
Tell us and we will fix it — and we will tell you when.
Please say which page, what you were trying to do, and what you use to browse (for example: VoiceOver on iOS, or keyboard only). That makes it much faster to reproduce.
If you contact us about an accessibility barrier, we aim to acknowledge it within five working days and to tell you either that it is fixed or when it will be.
